| Many people, especially in this present culture, avoid taking risks.
They would rather not try at all, than fail at something. The fact is, every great achievement involves risk. Few people exemplify this more than then the U.K.’s Special Air Service. The Special Air Service (SAS) Originals | Defense Media Network Though this is a pretty extreme example it shows the value taking risks. If what people fear stops them, nothing gets done. Even in training there is an element of risk you must overcome to get stronger. As I was getting ready to travel back from the UFC gym Monday night, one of the head guys threw down a strength challenge to the guys. All the guys near me we young and strong, but only one could complete the challenge. Then he, looked at me to see if I would go for it. He bellowed out OG!!! as I walked over to the equipment. Truth be told I couldn’t accomplish the task either, but I gave it my best shot. What is I was too scared to try? What if I played the “age card”? I was fun to try it, plus I learned something I needed to work to improve. I dared, and learned. To me that’s a win. Coach D |
