| Gotta love summer!
There’s all kinds of outdoor fun going on. Kayaking, fishing, boating or just hanging out by the pool are all fun. For the committed people, like you, training goes on all year round. Most of my training is done outdoors at my concrete gym aka my driveway. Today it was 97 degrees in the shade and the heat index was 107 degrees. I think the hottest day I ever trained outside was 115 degrees heat index. You have to use some wisdom when it’s that hot. Here’s a few tips on hot weather training: 1) hydrate before, during, and after training 2) train in the morning while the sun is still low in the sky 3) have a shaded area close by (like right next to your training spot) 4) use sunscreen (SPF 70 works well) 5) wear a ball cap 6) limit your training to about 30 minutes if it is 10 –11am or later 7) 45 minutes is fine if it’s still early 8) Remember, what you can do inside in the air conditioning means nothing outside. 9) use chalk 10) keep a small towel nearby to wipe the sweat off you forearms and hands before picking up your mace or club I have been training outdoors here in Florida for many years. These are all time-tested safety tips, so take them to heart. Now go outside and play! Coach D |
