I love to train outdoors.
One day I had trained at a local park in the peak heat of the day.
In southwest Florida, that means triple digit heat index up to 115 degrees.
When I got back to my gym I was drenched with sweat but still had some “gas in my tank”.
I decided to hit some 88 kettlebell cleans and went to work.
It went okay for the first couple of sets but during set 3 I heard a sound like ripping cloth.
Searing pain shot through my left forearm and I dropped the kettlebells.
Thank the Lord I missed my foot but or I would have had another injury.
I had done 88lb cleans many times in the past with no problems.
So what went wrong?
I was really warmed up from my other exercises, then the light went on in my head.
I never did a specific warmup for the kettlebell cleans using lighter weight like I should have done.
That would have prevented that injury.
I had plenty of time for that to sink into my thick skull.
Never, never, never skip your general and specific warmups.
The tear in my forearm was severe.
After 3 weeks I still couldn’t pick up a cup of coffee.
I found out later that I shouldn’t have been using ice on it, because that slows the healing process down.
Such is life.
We learn as we go.
